Christchurch Airport (CHC)
Airlines and Terminals

(Christchurch, Canterbury, South Island, New Zealand NZ)

Based within the outlying Harewood suburb, Christchurch Airport (CHC) is served by many domestic and international airlines, the largest and busiest of which is Air New Zealand.

There are two main terminals at CHC - Domestic and International, with recent modernisation plans seeing much expansion work, new combined check-in areas, a landside food court and shopping facilities, and three boarding gates. This is currently New Zealand's number two airport in terms of size and overall capacity, after Auckland's considerably larger and busier aviation hub. Wellington serves as number three, followed by Queenstown and Dunedin respectively.

Passenger numbers at Christchurch's airport are expected to rise following its ambitious expansion project, with annual throughput predicted to top six million passengers per annum over the next few years. However, 2010 and 2011 saw a noticeable drop in flights, following the devastation caused by earthquake damage around this part of New Zealand.
